Chief medical officers urge ban on social media for children at meal and bed times
The four chief medical officers for the UK have issued joint advice to parents to limit children’s screen time.
Although they acknowledge a lack of conclusive evidence about the harms caused by use of phones and other devices, the chief medical officers’ advice centres on likely damage caused to children’s social development by lack or interaction with parents and potential disruption of sleep arising from use of screens at bedtime. The chief medical officer for England, Dame Sally Davies, promised to look into the issue last year.
