I am a local resident, having lived and worked in Grimsby and Cleethorpes all my life. I am a mother of three lads in their twenties and as a result of this developed a strong interest in local sport.
After school I went to Leeds University and gained a degree and following that I started working for the Local Council here. I started as a trainee in the Housing Department and worked my way up through different positions and disciplines including area management; allocations and lettings; and homelessness and advice. After a period of writing policy and strategy related documents I moved to the corporate team to undertake similar work.
Other roles within the Council continued with the same focus of working in a community setting, often supporting both individuals and groups ie within Neighbourhood Renewal Funding and Neighbourhood Management and Development and finally with Safer Communities.
My passion for working within and for the community remained strong after my post at the Council was discontinued and I am now part of a small not for profit Community Interest Company providing activities for a variety of groups of people including many with disabilities. This is a role that is very satisfying and ensures that I am able to use my substantial experiences to both encourage local people to come forward with relevant issues and to have a meaningful voice in the provision of the local health and social care services that they receive.
